Chris Geisler:

ACMG Full Rock Guide, BSc
Chris is, arguably, the most versatile climber on the Squamish Rock Guides team. Not only is he skilled at technical rock routes, but he is also highly experienced at big wall, aid, ice, alpine and high-altitude climbing. If he had a specialty, it would likely be big wall aid climbing and this has culminated in ascents - both first and repeat - of some notoriously difficult routes in both Squamish, British Columbia and Yosemite Valley, California. Additionally, Chris has spent a vast amount of time climbing in the mountains and has traveled to exotic destination such as Peru and Pakistan to challenge himself on world-class, unclimbed objectives. He has a calm and easy-going demeanor which belie his penchant for daring climbing objectives.

In addition to his wealth of climbing experience, Chris also possesses many other skills. He holds a degree from Queen's University in
Biochemistry, and has done some work in fiber optic cable design. He is also a skilled artist specializing in design, manufacturing and installation of contemporary furniture, abstract sculpture and public art. Chris is the owner of Fluid Design Inc, and has won awards for some of his pieces. Most recently, he has also spent time teaching outdoor skills and working with high school students through the TREK program at Prince of Wales High School in B.C.

The skills Chris has refined through his various climbing and work-related experiences have allowed him to participate in some very unique projects. Of these, the most recent was the rigging and management of the first quadriplegic ascent of the 1000 ft Grand Wall on the Squamish Chief by Brad Zdanivsky. An ascent of this scale had not been accomplished anywhere in the world. Brad is now planning an ascent of El Capitan, in Yosemite, California for 2006.

Chris is a welcome addition to the team at Squamish Rock Guides and makes an excellent choice for instruction, guiding on the Chief or delving into the mysterious world of aid climbing.

Chris will be teaching;
Rock Rescue Techniques on Saturday, July 19
Aid Climbing Techniques on Sunday, July 20
